Rockaway Beach is a neighborhood on the Rockaway Peninsula in the New York City borough of Queens. It is located on the South Shore of Long Island. The community stretches between the Atlantic Ocean and Jamaica Bay, running from approximately Beach 73rd Street to Beach 98th Street. The neighborhood is bounded by Arverne to the east and Rockaway Park to the west. It is named for Rockaway Beach, which is the largest urban beach in the United States, stretching for miles along the Rockaway Peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean. Negril is a large beach resort located across parts of two Jamaican parishes, Westmoreland and Hanover. Westmoreland is the westernmost parish in Jamaica, located on the south side of the island. Not a lot of tourists in Jan/Feb. Nice places to have a snack or a drink. You can even take a lesson in surfing!
Loved the fact that it was away from the highly touristic areas of the island.

I really loves Tonsai Beach in Krabi Thailand. Although I hear they are bulldozing the whole beach for a new resort. Sad.

Tarifa has the best beaches in Spain, perfect for chilling out, windsurfing or kite-surfing. You should check out the beach at Bolonia, where you can eat at a Chiringuito overlooking the old Roman fishing town of Baelo Claudia.

Tulum Playa is a great stretch of soft, white sand. No resorts or hotels, just small cabanas and restaurants with varying levels of "rustic-ness." You can walk right into the water - no daunting currents on most days. Beautiful and totally relaxing.

I really like the long beaches in Nice. Though some small uncrowded places in a bit more remote locations like Llfranc can be cool.
