If you are loooking for a budget accommodation in a heart of Thamel (Kathmandu) try Deutsch Home. When you'll have problems to find it ask for New Orleans Cafe - is next door. You will find in the hotel also great trekking agency (ask for Chiran - he is very helpful and friendly guy). If you'll go with them, you may have an accommodation for free.

hey there,
I'm thinking of staying there when I go to Kathmandu in April - could you tell me whether it's clean and quiet enough? Would you happen to have a pic of the room you stayed in?

If you're planning to hike there at winter time take crampons with you. This easy-to-reach mountain (at summer time) is quite often covered by ice at winter. Worth to experience it at more severe conditions!

If you'd like to enjoy the wild nature with less-commercial style (comparing to main national parks) – you should try Moremi Game Reserve located on the easterrn leg of Okavango Delta. You have quite big chances to not see other people there. The area of reserve is not huge, but very different in each part – from old dark forest with big trees, through dense bush to open areas and lakes. You can go there with 4x4 only and driving itself will give you a lot of fun. The road is often very muddy or narrow and curvy. In some places you will need to cross the river (somewhere you will find old wooden bridges, but I wouldn't trust some of them).
There is plenty of animals, but you need to have eyes around your head, because they can easily disappear in the bush. On the lake areas you should see many hippos. There is possible to rent a motorboat and see them from closer distance. But be careful, cause they can easily get irritated and attack the boat. From other animals you can see big cats, elephants, buffalo, antelopes, crocodiles, African wild dogs and many others.
There is not too many accommodation options inside the reserve and all of them are rather expensive, but you can sleep in the cheap camp site at the entry gate (Rakuku). Watch African wild dogs which can visit you at night!
The whole day is enough to drive around the reserve and see main places. The gates are open from sunrise to sunset.
