For getting around easily, use the great Vélib community bicycle service. The daily fee is EUR 1 and using bicycles for up to 30 minutes is free after that. When using the bikes for longer, the prices increase every 30 minutes, so this is clearly intended for short-time use. Suggested use pattern: Grab a bike, drive to the next spot you want to visit, drop the bike. There shouldn't be a problem to find a station, as they are located within 300m distance from each other. Just try to avoid the stations at the main sights, chances are really bad there is a free place to return a bike at the Eiffel tower, for example. The cable car takes you to the Herzogstand in no time. This naturally leads to a significant amount of people on the peak.
