After crossing the barren landscape of Finnish Lapland north of Lake Inari, the lower Tana river (Tenojoki) really seems like the south - sandy beaches, lush green meadows, NO MOSQUITOES! Pitch your tent in a grove of tundra birch and enjoy the solitude!

No mosquitos? Unbelievable! :-) I like the landscape north of Lake Inari a lot but sounds like I'll have to visit the Norwegian side as well. Thanks for the tip!

Yess, at least when we were there, in July, there were NO mosquitoes! Or actually, we thought there were, but since they were all gone in the morning they must have been ones we brought ourselves from Sodankyla, in the folds of our hastily pulled-down tent...
