I'm in my third year touring North America in a play about knights. And coconuts. Searching for perfect pints, plates, mugs, hikes & soaks as I go.

Well worth the bumpy ride on FSR 376. Get there early for a solitary soak looking north west across the river to the ridge... Multiple, stacked pools at around 103...

The band was The Streels. The food was hot, crispy, most excellent fish & chips. And the drink…? Guinness. Which is, they say, good for you. The room was banged up pub at it’s most sincere: The Atlantic Trap & Gill.

Milestone's is unique because we're all foodies - a passion we share with our guests. Our skillful preparation begins with our in-house chefs who have mastered the art of delivering the expected, unexpectedly well. You don't necessarily have to know that we import oven-roasted tomatoes and cipolline onions from Italy. Or that we preserve lemons for two weeks to draw out the bitterness, so our house-made lemon aioli delivers a fantastic pure flavour. All you need to know is that Milestone's delivers tastes and flavours you can't find anywhere else. 95 days, 18 hours ago

I spent a week in Joshua Tree last January (2008) and had the most amazing time. Solitude of a very particular quality and a great variety of hikes... Boulder scrambling at Indian Cove (my profile pic is from that hike), 49 Palms Oasis (go early, it's popular) both in the north. Cottonwood Springs in the south... Too many to list. Go there! 99 days, 20 hours ago

Along the River Walk (thank FDR and WPA!) Waxy O'Connor's is a perfectly OK place to get a pint. It's less tourista than Mad Dog English Pub -- though the waitresses there do wear super short kilts... If you're into that kind of thing. 101 days, 17 hours ago
