Discussion: The Craziest Event

In the spring time there are lots of events all around the world, but it's really in the summer when Europe will truly become alive! A number of especially crazy events are held in Europe. Pamplona Bull Running in Pamplona, Spain is probably the craziest event. Or... On the second thought, we think there are even crazier ones. Read our tips about these interesting and extraordinary events.

  • 1. Punkaharju
    Mobile Phone Throwing World Championship in Punkaharju: Maybe you have heard about dwarf or fish throwing competitions, but in this competition contestants are throwing their mobile phones! Last year this event took place in Narva, Estonia, and this year it is in Punkaharju, Finland on the 22nd of August.
  • 2. Heddington
    Lawn Mower Racing in Heddington: Everyone knows those rally, motorcycle and sailboat races, but only a few have visited Lawn Mower Racing! Heddington and Stockley Steam Rally 12 Hour takes place from July 4th to 5th.
  • 3. Sonkajarvi
    Wife Carrying World Championship, Sonkajärvi: Come with your own wife or borrow neighbour’s and carry her while running the 253.5 meters (832 feet) track. The track has two dry and one water obstacle. The event takes place from 3rd until 4th of July and at the same time you can take part in Wife Carrying Karaoke Contest!
  • 4. Valencia
    Tomato Fight in Valencia: At the end of summer, 29th of August, people start fighting with tomatoes in Valencia! La Tomatina began in 1945, when the young threw tomatoes at each other on the streets. Since then, the event repeats every year. The event got bigger and bigger and there are more and more participants year by year.
  • 5. Kemijarvi
    Boot Throwing Cup in Kemijärvi: Did you know that people really compete in who can throw a boot the longest? Well, now you know! These events, or season, take place in Finland from July to September and the sport is getting publicity all the time. Also Estonia arranges boot throwing championships! The ides is basically to throw the boot as far as you can, just like for example the javelin.

What do you guys think that makes people want to participate in Wife Carrying contests? It sounds so wicked :D Would like to see that competition some day!

Now I have read in the magazine, that 4 people got injured in Pamplona. Kind of sad. Or I don't know. I guess they all knew it could be a possibility. Next time, maybe they run faster :P What do you guys think?

Yeah well.. I think its a fact that there are always going to be people hurting themselves and I believe that gives the people attending to the event some kind of excitement. Not the fact that the bull might really hurt them but the thing that they truly have run for their lives! Hmm.. sounds crazy, but is it?

I also red about that...but I think that is also a reminder that those bulls are also hurting themselves every year!

There are some really crazy things that take place in this planet, that's for sure! Funny thing is that they keep on going because people attend to them. Is it just that events have become tradition or what is it?

I don't know, what I think about La Tomatina, 'cause they're wasting so much food! But still, it's crazy! I think that here in Finland we have so many crazy events, as everyone can see from the map...but I think we don't have Lawn Motor Racing, which really tells how crazy people can be. That picture tells everything! :)

I've heard about this sports that take place at least in Finland. Its about sauna and the competition is about the fact that who can stay in sauna for the longest. Last man standing, or should we say sitting on the bench of sauna, is the winner :) Crazy!

It would be great to take part in this tomato battle, it sounds so exhilarating! Think about it, people throwing tomatoes at each other as much as they can. Talking about clearing up frustration or what lies behind this.. :)

I have never heard of a competition about throwing a mobile phone or a boot. It really sounds crazy but it could be a real laugh! I wonder if there are rules about how small or big phones you can toss..
