Obviously this college city is very old. I love to get transported back in time of the fantastic discoveries that have been made here (evolution theorie by Darwin, Law of gravitation by Newton, DNA molecule by Watson & Crick...). To my opinion, the best moment to visit cambridge would be in fall or early spring so most of the colleges are open with very fey tourists to bother you.

Stay at the University Arms (pricey, but o-so-nice) and spend an evening or two walking around the ancient colleges, take a stroll along the river Cam - and you´ll regret you studied somewhere else!
