Paris is the cosmopolitan capital of France and - with 2.2 million people living in zone 1 (Central Paris) and another 9.9 million people in the suburbs (la banlieue) - is one of the largest cities in Europe. Located in the north of the country on the river Seine, Paris has the reputation of being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities, brimming with historical associations and remaining vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design. Dubbed the City of Light, it is the most popular tourist destination in the world. Paris is a city to spend time in, walking, sit in a park or cafe watching life go by and soaking it all in. Went to Disney in April with the kids....they loved it. I loved it except the queues, must be worse in the summer.

Just found this page which explains all the tickets which are available to buy for the Metro and RER system. And it seems to be up to date!

I am travelling to Paris in late may/early june. Can't wait! The weather is really nice at that time of year - warm but not too hot yet. Good time to beat all the summer tourists as well.

I am thinking of going to Paris before the busy summer season. What time is best to go - mid May? Also, I need some recommendations on hotels. I want to stay in something very botique like - yet close to the city center. I don't care all that much about the museums and things. I'm more into exploring the city and checking out local botiques, cafes, and spots where the locals hang out.

May is starting to get busy because of events and exhibitions, but not as busy as June/July. For a small hotel have a look at the Melia Vendome, near the Champs Elysees.

Nothing like the view from the top of Montparnasse tower, or that famous old cemetery where Jim Morrission is buried.

Paris, paris, this city has so much to offer.
I use to cross Paris when visiting France and i always take a few hours between two trains to enjoy walking around, visiting its great monuments or just feel the unique parisian atmosphere.
I am looking forward to seeing more travelers in the group to share tips and good addresses.
Have fun
