"The city is located in the heart of the country, just one hour by train from Zurich in the direction of the mountains."

"You can also just go from Como straight to the St Moritz area and skip going via the Bernina Express, this takes 5 hours and a combo of bus and train, but IMO you should take the Bernina Express if you can so you can experience the high moutain passes 3. One final recco that is not in the mountains but IMO better than Lucerne or Zurich is that if you are interested in the Lake Geneva area which would be glorious in September and be the wine harvest time, you could get to in 5 hours if you took a 7 am train."
fodors.com
"It is located about one block off the Bahnhofstrasse and about a ten min walk from the Bahnhof, suggest taking a taxi...It is a small but warm hotel and also is in a quiet location, plenty of ristorantes such as Churrasco, China Restaurant ,Bindella and Cantinetta Antinori very close by. for a one day Zurich would consider shopping on the Bahnhofstrasse, not missing the toy shop Franz Carl Weber located at Bahnhofstrasse, 62 and also the Confiserie Splungli at Paradeplatz."

"Zurich (better: Zürich), located 409 meters above sea level at the northern end of the Lake of Zürich on the Swiss central plateau, is charming and multilateral."

"If I understand correctly you are getting off an overnight flight, taking your luggage and yourselves touring downtown Zurich(?), then catch train to Lucerne and sight-see still with your luggage for another few hours(?), and another train ride to reach Lauterunnen(?) ALL before you check into a hotel."

Zürich is a nice city to hang around in, no pressure to do much touristy stuff, as there isn't that much of it. It's a very Swissish city - all the elements are there - mountains at the horizon, an emerald-coloured lake in the middle and a tower with a clock on it. You can rent a boat with pedals in it, and move around the lake with it, although stick to passages meant for small boats. There are rather large boats too, and they don't like you getting in the way. It isn't very safe to do that either. You might end up pedaling for your life!

HI! I've been to Zurich always on business with a business budget. Now, I am taking my mom and can't afford the "business budget". Where can I eat, near or in the center, for a decent sum of money? Not just brats and beer, ; )) pls! Many thanks!

You can get a bike for free from the places close to the main railway station. Take one and go along the lake or to the hills. You'll see much more of the city that way. You can also go for a swim in the lake or just eat ice cream on the grass in the park area next to the lake shore. At least in summertime that was nice. I didn't find much anything else interesting in Zürich, though.

A small town not far from Zurich is Winterthur. Several great museums, non-descript little town, about a half hour from Z by train. The science museum there is INCREDIBLE. Everything is hands-on (and in good working order). It was truly unforgettable. Set aside at least 3 hours.

in the 90s, this area used to be crowed with junkies diverting from needle park and hookers. In the past ten years it has undergone a substantial improvement in lifestyle: It has been 'cleaned' and then populated mostly by students and artists to become a breeding place for great bars, lounges, cafes and shops. As in every bigger city, areas are going through waves of redlight/crook -> students and artists -> hip -> overpriced -> uninteresting. This area is now on the tip of being hip and first signs of a new crowd populating are visible, but it's still the best place to go in Zurich. Check it out.

Great sport for plane-spotters. The airport has no less than TWO roof-top terrraces, and even offers special guided bus-tours of the airport. Also has a small, but well-stocked BuchAir-shop on one of the roofs - a good way to spend some cash

Best Bratwurst EVER! And very affordable. A brat and hard roll is around 6 francs and fills you up. Grab a beer, and you've got a perfect meal for under 10 francs.

Great place to pick up some new releases on vinyl from all over Europe. Deep house, electro-house, d&b, etc. Very friendly staff (and they speak English)
