Zakopane is a very popular vacation destination among the Poles. I've been here in the summer and the place was filled with Polish tourists. It's a pretty nice place if you're looking for different outdoors activities and such. There are mountains you can hike in and almost any other outdoors sports you can imagine. Price level is excellent. If you want to go to the mountains and don't want to walk up there then you can take the cable car but be sure to be there early, as it gets crowded pretty early.

You should take a room at a pensionate here, it's much cheaper than the hotels. They are also available in much greater numbers.

They organize white water rafting trips that start about an hour's drive from Zakopane. Avoid them. They are class 1 and thus almost boringly easy.

Not-so-breathtaking! We went here for skiing but there wasn't as much snow as I expected and the conditions were quite bad. The staff was friendly though and we get some student discounts. And the bars were nice, i recommend hot drinks, quite similar to our "glögi".
