What is Tunis

Tunis (تونس) is the capital of Tunisia.

About Tunis elsewhere

"The conflict would have ended there, had not two of the mercenary commanders — Spendius and Mathos — convinced the Libyan conscripts in the army to accept their leadership, convinced the Libyans that Carthage would take revenge against them for their part in the conflict once the foreign mercenaries were paid and sent home, convinced the combined mercenary armies to revolt against Carthage, and convinced the various Libyan towns and cities to back the revolt."

"Within easy reach you find the ruins of Carthage ,a must see."
world66.com

"Spend a few days here and you'll agree: daydreaming at the famous Roman ruins of Carthage and El-Jem is almost as good as stepping into Virgil's Aeneid and knocking one back with Dido, while a day's dawdling on the north coast's beaches or those of Jerba Island, the 'Land of the Lotus Eaters', will leave you wondering why Hannibal ever left."
lonelyplanet.com

"Wary of such a large foreign army near the capital, and alarmed by the disruptive effects they were having on the city, the Carthaginian government convinced the mercenaries to withdraw to the nearby city of Sicca Veneria (Modern El Kef ), 170 km south-west of Carthage, taking their families and baggage trains with them [5]."
en.wikipedia.org

"Tunisia has been a part of Phoenician, Carthagenian, Byzantic, Roman, Arab, Turkish and French empires and they all left their beautiful traces here."

Don't bother with this place. Used to be pretty nice in the early 80's, but is now a run down budget hotel.
