mars68 loves Stonehenge because it is a must for anyone interested in history. Saw it years ago when I was kid, and still can vividly remember the experience. Saw Stonehenge back when you could still walk among the stones. One of those places in the world that you MUST visit.

"Erected between 3000 and 1600 BC, Stonehenge is a giant stone circle that stands on Salisbury Plain and is considered today to be one of the most famous surviving sites from the ancient world."
"A reminder of a lost civilisation who once walked the many ceremonial avenues across Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge is also still one of Britain's great archaeological mysteries: although there are countless theories about what the site was used for, ranging from a sacrificial centre to a celestial timepiece, in truth no one really knows what drove prehistoric Britons to expend so much time and effort on its construction."
"Whatever the reason, if you're in the area check out the ye old worldly aura of Stonehenge, Glastonbury and the Salisbury Plains and the amazing sight of all those crop circles."
"Being on the edge of the military training area Salisbury Plain ,a large amount of military facilities have also been constructed in the area, including military barracks, a light railway and an aerodrome built within a stones throw of Stonehenge (most of which has now fortunately been removed)."
"A giant timber circle ( photo )once stood at Durrington, which is 1.75 miles (2.8 kilometers) from the celebrated circle of standing stones on Salisbury Plain."
"Salisbury Plain's mysterious ancient stone megaliths, which attract almost a million visitors each year, could soon be joined by another impressive sight—the magnificent great bustard."

jussi from Finland wrote about Salisbury Cathedral 4 years, 9 months ago
Salisbury wasn't the most inspiring destination I've been to for a business trip. However, I had some free time and was told that the cathedral is the town's main sight. And I'm glad I listened: the cathedral was grand. It's surrounded by a nice park and the tall spire built about 700 years ago makes the setting memorable. The cathedral is also the home of the best conserved copy of the original Magna Carta.
