We stayed at the Sandals in Antigua in 1998. They weren't as all-inclusive as they claimed to be -- it was difficult to get reservations for the good restaurants, the snorkeling boat, etc., and they put too much time and effort into trying to sell you other trips or services so that you wouldn't be using what you'd already paid for. Even relaxing on the beach wasn't relaxing. The beach is public property, so you couldn't go five minutes without hearing "Helloooo? Want to buy a T-shirt?", or neckaces, or whatever else the wandering vendors would try to sell. If you pretended to be asleep, they'd wake you.

Beutiful island but more poverty here than many other islands i have visited.
Beaches are seperated by geography so you don't have long uninterupted beaches. Capital city is typical tourist trap with all the different shops. Highly recommend renting a vehicle and exploring the island on your own. The locals are friendly and will help you find your way if lost.
