Scotland, South Dakota, USA view on map

Place description from Wikitravel:

Scotland (Scottish Gaelic: Alba) is a nation in northwest Europe and one of the four constituent countries that make up the United Kingdom, sharing a 60 mile (96 km) long land border with England to the south and separated from Northern Ireland by the North Channel of the Irish Sea. Otherwise, Scotland is surrounded by the bracing waters of the North Sea to the east, and the North Atlantic Ocean to the west and north. The country's capital is Edinburgh and its largest city is Glasgow. Apart from these and several other cities, the popular image of Scotland for most travellers, of course, centres on the "Highlands and Islands" - a wonderfully diverse land, Scotland has much to offer virtually any traveller.

On Scotland USA

I lived there for about 3 years, and I can say - if you want to raise kids in a great environment where sports as well as academics is achieved - Scotland, SD - may seem like a way out place, but they have a lot to offer families tired of city life.

The winters are a bit harsh, but if you like a small town feel, with plenty of outdoors things to do - such as biking - I use to bike a lot back than - you will have plenty of places to do it and not have to worry about your kids running around at 9pm at night. More than likely they will be in a pick up game somewhere within a few blocks of your home. 320 days, 14 hours ago
