Saana lake is just next to Saana fell. The lake is frozen 8 months a year. So if you want to swim, schedule your trip carefully.

I think one of the best things about Saana is that it's peak is easily reachable, even with a kid :) We had our 4-year old with us and she made it just fine (with a little help of course ;)) Climbed there in the beginning of June 2007, it was really warm (+20-->) but still a lot of snow. Great views, great experience!

Great tip! How long did it take for you to climb there with your 4-year old?

The best time to visit Finish Lapland is in the middle of september. Then you can experience the finnish Ruska. It means that the nature is starting to get ready for the winter and the whole scenery turns into the colours from red to yellow and green. Beautiful!!

This is also one of the specialities from Lappland! Those "mountains" are really fascinating and the atmosphere is so different than in the other places. Only about 100 local people and some tourists here and there. But not too much! And only some kilometers to the borded of the Norway. It could be a memorable experience to go to sauna and swim in the lake :) But remember, that summer there is so short and in July there is only about +10,9 degrees. Don't forget to take your camera with!

At first I have to say that this isn't only for student-budget (although the quality still might be :) but at the same time you have an opportunity to familiarize yourself with Kilpisjärvi "town" and of course Saana. There is different price levels and accommodations, so you can choose the best one for you.

valtterirantala
valtterirantalaloves Kilpisjärvi because good for snowkiting
