About Puerto Vallarta elsewhere
lonelyplanet.com
"Part of its popularity is owed to the fact that development has left its Old Town unscathed, so there are cobblestone streets and graceful churches in the city center instead of glass and concrete towers."
fodors.com
"Picturesque colonial and whitewashed buildings, cobblestone streets that wind in and out, red spanish tile roofs differentiate Puerto Vallarta from other seaside resorts."
world66.com
"Along with its cobblestone streets, stunning beaches, plentiful marine life, lush Sierra Madre Mountains, exceptional restaurants, fine Gourmet Festival, new golf courses and vibrant culture, Puerto Vallarta is a vacationer's paradise that has maintained its unique Old Mexico charm despite the addition of these modern conveniences."
wikitravel.org
"Beyond the cobblestone streets, graceful cathedral, and welcoming atmosphere, Puerto Vallarta offers a wealth of natural beauty and man-made pleasures."
frommers.com
"Wander its cobblestone streets, admire its whitewashed houses, then relax on its gorgeous sandy beach -dolphins can be seen frolicking year-round, and humpback whales cruise by from December to March."

Here is a true adventure tour...It is called the Tour San Sebastian.
If you are afraid of flights you might sit this one out...but if you are a true adventure traveler you will love it. You will take a puddle jumper to an old mining town called San Sebastian.

Nothing very special about the place but the general feel is nice, and people extremely friendly. From there, you can also make it to yelapa... (but this is another story).
