About Prague astronomical clock

This clock something that most guidebooks tell you to go and see. Boy are you disappointed when you see it. Tons of tourists wait for the clock to work and when about 10 seconds later it's done your only feeling is "was that it!?!?". I guess you need to see this while in Prague but don't expect too much.

Very nice and friendly bar with nice prices. Traditional straightforward rock bar action for people who like to have fun. Dr. Pepper of the Czech bars - 50% of our team turned away from the door and the rest stayed there until morning.

Goodbye sober day!

This could be also under "sight" category...

The square is full of tourists as it's listed as a must sight in every guidebook about Prague. Nice place to walk through but wouldn't spend more time there.

A very nice town square but tons of tourists and everything is "tourist priced" i.e. very expensive compared to some less tourist invaded places in Prague.

A very nice looking bridge but zillions of tourists. This is the one place that everyone in Prague goes out to see and you can definitely tell that from the amount of tourists...

This hostel had to be the best hostel that we stayed in! It was soo clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. All the rooms were really clean as well as the bathrooms. And the most important thing to me is the shower and they were very nice as well!! Everytime we went into the hostel we saw someone cleaning. ALWAYS! In the morning you get free breakfast which to tell the truth isn't that great..it's just cornflakes but you also get one free sandwhich a day which is actually really good!!This hostel is very close to the Old town square and not too far of a walk from restaurants, grocery stores, and nightlife. The hostel also provides free interent with 2 computers and maps of the city as well as brochures for other fun stuff to do! It's not that far of a walk from the train station but it's not the main train station so if you are leaving from the main station you have to take the underground but it's only a couple of stops. If you are going to Prague I definatley recommend this hostel. One of the best!

Cross Club is the best place in Prague to listen to good music, dance and hang around. And it has a spectacular design, very unusual.

In Prague we were welcomed by ticket inspectors (fake or real, I don't know) in the subway. We had read about these guys in a guide that warned us that they screw tourists. So did these guys try to do as well, claiming that our newly bought tickets were not valid. Or that's what we thought they were saying as you couldn't really make much sense out of their English. As we didn't pay one of them made a call supposedly to police (for about 15 seconds) but I'm betting that he called home to tell his wife to buy some meat as now they can rip off some stupid tourists. Well, we just walked away and disregarded the guys as they ran after us shouting something we didn't understand. Welcome to Prague... Otherwise an ok city, but having heard so much good about it was actually a small disappointment. Nothing too special about it. Except the torture museum close to the castle. That was cool in its own scary way.

This was by far the best place to go in Prague. Dreadful as it may be it was still very interesting. It was "nice" to see how cruel people can be to each other and how much effort and research has been poured into developing excruciating but not lethal (at least not instantly lethal) methods of torture. You should definitely go here if you're in Prague!

The best feature in the Prague Castle is its location: on a high hill overlooking the city centre and the Vltava river. The castle and St. Vitus Cathedral and the royal palace are still beautiful sights themselves but even better was to climb the stairs up to the spire and see the view over the old town.

jussi

jussi from Finland wrote about Charles bridge 4 years, 9 months ago

The bridge is for pedestrians only and is the most convenient route from the castle to Malá Strana. The bridge was built 650 years ago and it's nowadays one of the main tourist magnets in Prague.

jussi

jussi from Finland wrote about Old Town Square 4 years, 9 months ago

The "heart of Prague" says the guidebook. I'd say the heart of Prague is found in one the beer halls or pubs. Nowadays the Old Town Square is full of cafés and tourists. There's also the astronomical clock, which was quite a show, considering its age of 600 years..

Prague Square Hostel is the best located hostel Ive stayed around the world. Its just at the famous Astronomical Clock, between two main Prague squares, Old Town Sqaure and Wenceslaw Square. You just walk everywhere!!!
The hostel is very clean, beds confortable. Theres common kitchen which is useful when you are on low budget. Plus we met a lot of nice people there.

Any great, reasonably priced hotels in a quiet but central area that have charm yet are conducive to families? It seems that Prague hotels tend to charge for a child like an extra adult. All suggestions appreciated!

jussi

jussi replied 3 years, 2 months ago:

Hi Michelle! The underground in Prague is fast and easy way to get around. At least for us it was very nice to stay a bit outside the centre and take the tram or underground to the city.

It was a few years ago, but at that time the neighborhood and the hotel were great. The name of the hotel was Belvedere, see http://www.tripsay.com/destination/belvedere
