So from Rome I'd go to Sorrento, stopping enroute to visit Pompeii, overnight in Sorrento and then take the ferries to Salerno stopping in the town of Amalfi enroute (Positano is more pretty, but you can get the picture from the ferry, there is more to do in the town of Amalfi and if you have time you can get the bus to Ravello -there's not much in Ravello but the bus ride is pretty interesting -read hair raising -and it's where this stereotypical picture is taken Link Name.
