Attractive small town. The old town is very interesting with small boutiques and coffeehouses, old wooden houses. The riverside Porvoonjoki is a pleasant place in summertime - like you were abroad! And of course the very old church is worth visiting. I really liked the town

Probably the best candy - the "kiss", chocolate covered mousse ball - comes from here. Factory outlet. Don't forget the licorice!

If you din't want to walk all the way here, you can also visit Brunberg shop in Välikatu 4.

paavo

paavo from Indonesia wrote about Kerava 4 years, 8 months ago

Kerava is a bit of a joke in Finland. "Keravan kundi" or "Keravan kolli" means literally "a guy from Kerava" but refers to a lower educational level individual, usually violent, drunken and with a loud mouth.
Actually its a sleepy little residential town with very few reasons to visit for a tourist. Probably a much nicer town to live in what its reputation might suggest.

This is a protected forest park area in eastern Helsinki, 30 minutes from the center.

jjtravel

jjtravel from Finland wrote about Vuosaaren huippu 4 years, 7 months ago

Want to see a fall in the middle of Helsinki? This old dump is now a piece of interesting landscape, bare hill with stubs, rocks and low shrub. Material for all this is from a couple of islands which got buried under new port.

A great place to come and watch both nature and the new harbour.

tutteli

tutteli from Finland wrote about Vessölandet 3 years ago

slouppi says:

VESSöLANDET

"A nice and peaceful area near a sand quarry (Lohja Rudus) and a campsite/caravan park in the Porvoo archipelago. Anders Lindholm and Erik Vahtola found this place in 2003 after enthusiastic searching for boulders on the island of Vessölandet near Porvoo. The quarry area features quality slab bouldering, vertical highballs, overhangs and arêtes. The types of holds vary from smooth slopers to crimps and pinches.

Within one-hour drive from Helsinki, 15mins from Porvoo, and a great deal of further potential (especially in the grades above 6b) the area is definitely worth a visit."

Come here on a sunny day to have a picnic or to just wander in the woods. In the summertime you can spot sheep and goats. Be sure to bring good shoes and long socks or sleeves because of ticks.

Karhusaari is located between Helsinki and Porvoo, it's an excellent place to live if you want a bit of quietness, but still be reasonably close to Helsinki center. There are some really nice houses.

A links style course undergoing massive renovation over a few years, now complete with the customary deep bunkers and hillsides full of heather. The fairways are quite narrow, so yells of "FORE!" are the usual muzak. Windy, but pleasantly so, and something quite different in terms of golfing experience.

tilkkuliini

tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Porvoo Hostel 4 years, 5 months ago

Affordable and peaceful place. It costs about 19 euros to sleep in a double room. If you want to party in Porvoo, this might not be the best place to over night, but if you want to just sleep well, this is the right choise. I didn't hear any noices in the night.

The easiest way to contact them and book a room is sending e-mail to porvoohostel@co.inet.fi

tilkkuliini

This is really a must-go shopping place in Porvoo. All the stuff is hand made Finnish design. Every time I go to Porvoo, I just have to visit here.

Some of the products are a bit expensive, but everything is worth its' price. I allways try to save money and buy only the little things and Ooops! Again I spent 50 euros :D You just can't leave there with out buying something. The more I think of it, the more I want to go there again!

tilkkuliini

tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Brunberg's chocolate shop 4 years, 4 months ago

The most delicious shop in Finland. You can buy the famous Brunberg chocolate kisses here. There are plenty of other goods too. And the prices are ridiculous low :) This is the place where I go first every time when I'm in Porvoo. It's good to continue shopping, when tummy is full of chocolate :D

tilkkuliini

tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Ekokauppa Oravanpesä 4 years, 4 months ago

Strange little boutique. They are selling all kinds of stuff, which are made environmentally friendly. I haven't really bought anything yet, but I guess I don't belong to their target group :D

The staff is a bit odd but they are still friendly, so don't be scared :D
