About Portimão elsewhere

"Meneses decided that there was sufficient evidence to pass the case to a judge ,who had the power to approve any charges and also decide, within 10 days, on other actions that could have included placing the McCanns under house arrest in the Algarve, ordering further interrogations and authorising further searches."

"After the complete capture of Algarve in 1249 the king gave himself the title "King of Portugal and Algarve", stressing the fact that the Algarve, after the long rule by the Moors, was considered a foreign country and not part of Portugal."

"From Liverpool to Manchester to Plymouth, the sailors spoke wistfully of the beautiful green-eyed, olive-skinned women of the Algarve."

"The favorite is Praia da Rocha ,a creamy yellow strand that has long been the most popular seaside resort on the Algarve."

"The true western coast (stretching from Odeceixe all the way to Sagres) is mainly roughland/rockcliffs, time-to-time featuring windy/wavy barely populated beaches (and then, sticking to surf addicts), so landscape might get impressive for photography but it doesn't really offer the eden-type (white-sandy) scenario broadly familiar in Algarve (namely across eastern Algarve, Tavira/Montegordo shorelines)."

"The Algarve is Portugal's most popular holiday destination due to the clean beaches (approximately 200km of them), the cool, unpolluted water, and the facts that it is relatively cheap and very safe."

"Anyway, and coming to an agreement that the offer there might not fulfil your expectations, the closest (and easiest(?)) that you get in Western Algarve is (the city of) Lagos, about 35km East on the main (and about single) road; it's typical among seasonal visitors (foreign/locals) to the area, and it offers nice/decent nightlife (powerful, in summer) across traditional scenario/architecture; if you fancy something more international (disco-alike environment) and unflavoured, then head another 20km East (from Lagos) and check-out Praia da Rocha (Portimo's beach/resort town)."

One of the most beautiful beach resorts in the world. It has a huge parc with lots of pretty flowers, two pools and a private beach that is in its own bay and can only be accessed from the resort.
Pure relaxation!
