It was supposed to be the most beautiful sunset in the world according to Lonely Planet. Well, that was a bit too much. Pretty anyways and the town of Oia is nice too. Quite a lot of tourists squeeze their way here to see the sunset. I'd take a Finnish mid summer night by a lake any day over this sunset. Still definitely worth the small trip if you're on the island.

About places near Oía

Santorini is something you need to see if you like awesome sceneries and nature. The downside is that there are tons of tourists (especially american for some reason) so there is little chance of seeing true greek culture here. The view from the ridge of the caldera is still worth the visit. Make sure to rent a scooter and drive around the island and see the sunset at Ia!

Very unique place, grab a boat from Santorini, and check it out. Be prepared to get your shoes dirty. If you want to go take a swim in the warm springs near the volcano, put your swimsuit before you get on the boat..there isn't much time to do this on the boat, nor any comfortable place.

Climbing (with the bus obviously) from the port to the actual island is something you don't do every day. Very steep and 300 meters high makes it a fun trip. The whole island is extremely beautiful, even more so than many other Greek islands, but that makes it a tourist trap as well. It's so beautiful though that I for once didn't mind.

By the stunning fresh water pool of Atlantida Villas Hotel, which is shaped like the Santorini Gulf area, there are deckchairs and umbrellas, where you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing. At the pool bar you can sip your coffee, juice or cocktail and savour our delicious crepes, pizzas and snacks while admiring the beauty of the serene landscape. The view of the mystical Santorini Caldera and the glorious sunset can be seen from both the interior and the exterior areas of the complex. On the hotel Atlantida Villas Santorini Hotel site you will also discover some unique features. You can learn the process of making dough and baking bread at the flour mill and the oven. Pay a visit to our little church and light a candle (it is not necessary to leave any money). Find out how our ancestors used to stack grapes to make wine at our bucket–elevator beside the pool. In the oia hotels Atlantida Villas complex you will also find a model of Santorini, which displays the characteristics and features of the island.

And every time there is a thunder storm the electricity falls down from the entiry island.. But there is a great beach, where you can climb up the rocky hill and jump to the water! (Ok, don't tell your mom I told that!)

By plane? There are very reasonable priced flights from Helsinki to Santorini. Or if you prefer a holiday package, many finnish travel agencies have trips to Santorini (e.g. SMT)...

Actually, I would recommend flying to Athens, then taking the subway to Pireus and taking a ship to Santorini. It enables you to visit several of the islands on the same trip. Santorini is by no means the best of the islands, only the most popular among tourists.
