To allow us to sleep later on our traveling home day we booked a room at an Ibis Hotel in Mainz, Germany.

While taking in the sights we stumbled upon an Irish Pub with a very friends German/French Bartender who, after few pints of Guinness, sounded a little Irish.

In early September they have a wonderful Medieval Market and Fayre. You can eat the Zwiebelkochen (onion cake) and drink the Federwiesse (new wine), buy all kinds of medieval costumes and drink beer as you walk around the village. They also have a Knights jousting tournament each day.

This restaurant and hotel, dating back to 1541, is a real gem along river Rein. The classic restaurant serves a very good menu on the terrace with a view to the river.

It is easy to reach this lovely village from Rüdesheim which is a starting point for several cruise boats on Rein and which also has station with frequent connection to several bigger cities around. You may walk either along the river shore or through forests and vineyards higher on the hills.

Before you go, download the Frankfurt In Your Pocket city guide for free from http://frankfurt.inyourpocket.com or grab a hard copy when you are there.

Poorly planned airport for connecting flights: "wings" of the terminals are several kms long so getting to for example gate A42 will take about one hour!

-antti-hates Raunheim because There's nothing, really.. someone said it to be like Tikkurila. So, if you like Tikkurila...

I remember quickly boarding my train and then dashing back to the bench on the platform to retrieve a backpack I'd left behind... fortunately, the train conductor held up the departure so I could reboard the train
