There is just something about Old Rauma. When you are walking along the streets and alleys, you can imagine the people running around there hundred years ago, ladies wearing big dresses and man wearing fine clothes. If you can get a guide for your trip, she or he will probably tell crazy stories from old days. At least our guide did :) Just be careful so he won't join you to your lunch, because yes, our did..
And those are interested in architecture, there are absolutely beautiful houses in Old Rauma.

There are couple of places I like in Nousiainen. You can find a beautiful, high bridge from the back of the church of Nousiainen. You would never expect to see something like that in there! That really made an impression on me. Other thing I like about in Nousiainen is a hiking trail that begins from Nousiainen. It's called "Lakjärven vaellus" in Finnish. And the hike trail has 10 geocaches within 5 kilometers!
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about The Night of Lanterns 4 years, 5 months ago
In every August they have a small festival in Uusikaupunki which is called Lyhtyjen yö in finnish. People go to a hill called Myllymäki and take lanterns with them. There are great bands playing on the hill and when it gets dark the lanterns look really great. They also award the best lantern!

If you are a geocacher, you can find a good hidden cache here. We didn't find the cache at first try, but I didn't mind coming back again. The gps signal is quite poor in the forest so it makes the searching a bit more difficult. But when you find the box you'll be really happy. One of the best hides I have seen.
Be careful if it has rained because the rocks might be slippery. Especially if you go to look the climbing place.
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Kokkovuori 4 years, 5 months ago
The view from the top is great, if the weather is clear. It's quite suprising to see a view like that in the middle of.. well nothing.
The cache is quite easy to find. Be careful especially with kids because there is usually some broken glass on the ground.
If you are not a geocachers, that doesn't matter. View is still beautiful :D
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Giant Kettle of Hakametsä 4 years, 5 months ago
Giant kettle or pothole or ice age pit.. what ever you want call it! It's anycase a hole in the rock :D A real must-go-place! :P The holes have been formed in the ice age.
No, really. This giant kettle of Hakametsä is interesting, because it so in the middle of city. Well, not in the heart of Uusikaupunki, but there are appartment houses just around the corner.
Teen agers have also found the place and it also looks like it. And! It's damn hard to find. So here are the cordinates, if you happen to have gps with you:
N 60° 48.096 E 021° 25.898
There is no use going to Uusikaupunki just because of this, but if you are already there, this is an interesting add to your trip.

The service in the restaurant was quick even though there was plenty of people eating. Maybe even too quick if you going there to sit and enjoy your companyt. Staff was looking happy the whole time. And of course the best part was the food! Basic menu, but they somehow make it extra good :D
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Kuuanvuori 4 years, 4 months ago
This is one of those places I would have never visited without my hobby geocaching. So there is a cache if you are interested :)
The view from the top is quite suprising. At least in winter I had to climb there very carefully and watch my every step. Suddenly I was at the top and could see the beautiful view. It took only about 5 minutes to climb there. A quick stop but a great view!
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Männäisten Ruukki 4 years, 4 months ago
The ironworks of Männäinen was founded in 1747. There is now days just the beautiful surroundings. You can hear and see the water flowing under the bridges. The old buildnings are still there to remind us from the history.
Beautiful place, but there isn't much to do. Unless you are a geocacher, cause there is a cache. At least in winter time there was nothing going on, but if you are in the neighbourhood, it's an interesting place to check out.

This is probably the best restaurant in Uusikaupunki. I ate there about 10 times last summer and every time the food was delicious. In summer there is a buffet, where the goods are of insular origin (Saaristolaispöytä), several kinds of fish etc. But I usually ate meat :D
I have heard that it's a bit difficult to get good vegetarian meal here. Anyhow, the prices are decent and the service is good. Enjoy your meal! :D
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Rauma 4 years, 4 months ago
There are beautiful places in Rauma, which most people have never heard of. We went there for a small hike last weekend and found a great view. The place is absolutely in the middle of forest and I know no better way to tell you guys where it is, than coordinates :D Goos luck with that. The coordinates are about N 61° 06.675 E 021° 33.156. Tiny little walk and beautiful view!
nipsu from Finland wrote about Pursiseuran paviljonki 4 years, 4 months ago
If you wanna enjoy eating tasteful food and admire the beautiful sight at the same time, this is a right place for you. The restaurant is open in the summer and you can go there by a ferry from the centre of Uusikaupunki. You can find lots of fish foods from the menu, but if you don't like those, there are also other possibilities. That voyage to the isle is also an experience.

Vehmaan kirkko is a beautiful church in Vehmaa. Near the church you can find a small coffee shop (kesäkahvila) in the summer and a small christmas shop before Christmas.
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Uudenkaupungin Vanha Kirkko 2 years ago
