This place is paradise. The hotel is reasonably small so the service is impeccable. Rooms are incredibly large and were completely renovated in 2006. Lots of activities for both kids and adults--surfing at Kihei, scuba diving with giant turtles, kayaking, whale-watching, sailing, and even racing an outrigger canoe. Plus, a lot of the staff are native Hawaiians so there is an air of authenticity to everything.

Kihei is a great place to learn how to surf. Waves are perfectly formed, slow-moving, and last forever. You feel like a pro even if you are a novice. People are friendly, too.

Very cool snorkeling out here. Take a boat trip and bring the kids. They have inflatable mattresses with see-thru bottoms so the kids can check out the fish safely. The company we went with had a BBQ lunch on board with plenty of beer for the adults!
