Better not go to this hill during January as you'll freeze your face off after taking the lift to the top. It's windy and with temperatory well below -20C it'll be a bit inconvenient!

Ylläs is an excellent place to ski if you want to ski in Finland. It's small compared to the Alps or any other mountain for that matter, but still it offers quite nice slopes.

On of the best places to go downhill in Finland, but still very small. Elevation is merely 1km. Slopes are quite easy and wide, kids love it.

There isn't that much snow in Finland anymore, but if you go to Ylläs on winter time, you can be sure that there will be snow. This year you could ski even in the end of April. Well, in the last week of April it pretty much started to melt :) But when the snow melts, the nature looks kind of cool as you can see from the pictures!

If you don't want to ski and do downhill skiing all the time when staying in Ylläs, take some time and go to Konijänkän kotieläinpiha ("domestic animal farmyard of Konijänkkä"), there are lots of animals and of course: reindeers! I recommend this specially for children, but for adults also. That animal in a picture is a pig, believe it or not. Breath-taking :)

Ylläs is an excellent site for cross country skiing - track network covers several fells and there is several hundred kms to ski.

The vastest cross-country skiing track network in Finland. And always well maintained. For better access to these marvellous routes, consider Äkäslompolo for accomodation.

The another center in Ylläs area, with most comprehensive cross-country skiing possibilities in Finland. Easier access to skiing routes than from Ylläsjärvi side of the fjeld.

With personal experience I highly recommend to find another place to get some rest.
Here's a quick sum up:
-lousy customer service
-expensive compared to location and quality
-personnel basically only speak swedish

If you're just passing by, continue to the next pit stop.

Great place for Skiing, Mountains (Tunturit). Nature

nipsu

nipsu from Finland wrote about Yllästunturi one year, 3 months ago

No matter the time of the year, it's worth going there! In the winter snow, reindeers and that possibility to go to skiing in a pure nature...it's so peaceful! And in a summer there is so quiet, almost no one is there...then it's so great to climb to the "mountain"...you can walk there by the road or if you want to take challenges, climb straight to the top :)

I visit Ylläs every year, usually about 4 times. In spring, summer, autumn and winter. Every time has its' sides. There is snow in winter and spring and in summer it's beautiful like usually in Finland. In autumn it's "ruska" time and the leaves chance their color and forests are beautiful.

Nice little boutique. They are also selling normal souveniers, but the point going there is that they usually have something fun to buy as present. I just bought a month ago the funniest hat ever to my daughter.
