There is a parking place near the road. Be careful if it has rained, because the rocks might be slippery.

If you enjoy watching the sea view and just want to forget the hectic life, this is so relaxing! In the winter the place is more quiet, but in the summer there are more possibilities to spend time. There are also other beautiful islands and I can really recommend Keistiö. Only about 50 year-round inhabitants and one little shop. Nothing can disturb your stay in there.

Vaihelan Kievari is well worth a stop in Velkua. Very nice hotel/guesthouse with good food, even a winecellar. If Tom is around, he might take you fishing!

tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about The Night of Lanterns 4 years, 5 months ago
In every August they have a small festival in Uusikaupunki which is called Lyhtyjen yö in finnish. People go to a hill called Myllymäki and take lanterns with them. There are great bands playing on the hill and when it gets dark the lanterns look really great. They also award the best lantern!

This is really something that you can't find from anywhere else! In every january 13th is a day of Nuutti and on saturday there is an event in Kustavi (in Tuulentupa), which is called "Nuutintanssit"...those crazy outfits and that tradition is really uncommon thing in Finland! And this is all because "the bad Nuutti" takes the winter away.

Not so typical way to spend cultural "nightlife", but a part of it! :)

If you are a geocacher, you can find a good hidden cache here. We didn't find the cache at first try, but I didn't mind coming back again. The gps signal is quite poor in the forest so it makes the searching a bit more difficult. But when you find the box you'll be really happy. One of the best hides I have seen.
Be careful if it has rained because the rocks might be slippery. Especially if you go to look the climbing place.

It's so true, nothing can disturb you. The inhabitation mostly consists of idyllic summer cottages by the water. It's so quiet one elderly man living there once said: "It bloody happens nothing here ever. I wish there was even just one little forest fire!"

And let's not think that as a tip :D
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Taivassalo 4 years, 5 months ago
The archipelago of Taivassalo can be breath-taking especially in summer time. The roads go here and there like in the middle of the sea. Imagine a warm and sunny summer day (yes, sometimes there are those in Finland!) and you're chillin on the beach and the waves wet your feet... Well, maybe it can happen if you rent your own cottage :D But anyhow, the views are relaxing.

This is a suitable restaurant for person, who likes to eat much fish and fresh home-made food. I have been there so many times and liked a lot. They make breads themselves and you can also buy breads to take home with. I didn't find any home pages of this restaurant, but I think it's open all year round!? Because I have been there only in the summer...

tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Giant Kettle of Hakametsä 4 years, 5 months ago
Giant kettle or pothole or ice age pit.. what ever you want call it! It's anycase a hole in the rock :D A real must-go-place! :P The holes have been formed in the ice age.
No, really. This giant kettle of Hakametsä is interesting, because it so in the middle of city. Well, not in the heart of Uusikaupunki, but there are appartment houses just around the corner.
Teen agers have also found the place and it also looks like it. And! It's damn hard to find. So here are the cordinates, if you happen to have gps with you:
N 60° 48.096 E 021° 25.898
There is no use going to Uusikaupunki just because of this, but if you are already there, this is an interesting add to your trip.
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Kuuanvuori 4 years, 4 months ago
This is one of those places I would have never visited without my hobby geocaching. So there is a cache if you are interested :)
The view from the top is quite suprising. At least in winter I had to climb there very carefully and watch my every step. Suddenly I was at the top and could see the beautiful view. It took only about 5 minutes to climb there. A quick stop but a great view!
tilkkuliini from Finland wrote about Männäisten Ruukki 4 years, 4 months ago
The ironworks of Männäinen was founded in 1747. There is now days just the beautiful surroundings. You can hear and see the water flowing under the bridges. The old buildnings are still there to remind us from the history.
Beautiful place, but there isn't much to do. Unless you are a geocacher, cause there is a cache. At least in winter time there was nothing going on, but if you are in the neighbourhood, it's an interesting place to check out.

This is probably the best restaurant in Uusikaupunki. I ate there about 10 times last summer and every time the food was delicious. In summer there is a buffet, where the goods are of insular origin (Saaristolaispöytä), several kinds of fish etc. But I usually ate meat :D
I have heard that it's a bit difficult to get good vegetarian meal here. Anyhow, the prices are decent and the service is good. Enjoy your meal! :D
nipsu from Finland wrote about Pursiseuran paviljonki 4 years, 4 months ago
If you wanna enjoy eating tasteful food and admire the beautiful sight at the same time, this is a right place for you. The restaurant is open in the summer and you can go there by a ferry from the centre of Uusikaupunki. You can find lots of fish foods from the menu, but if you don't like those, there are also other possibilities. That voyage to the isle is also an experience.

Vehmaan kirkko is a beautiful church in Vehmaa. Near the church you can find a small coffee shop (kesäkahvila) in the summer and a small christmas shop before Christmas.
