What is Ivalo

Ivalo is in Finnish Lapland, located on the Ivalo river 20 kilometres to the south of Lake Inari. It has a population of 3,998 as of 2003 and a small airport. 30 kilometres south of Ivalo is a very popular resort named Saariselkä (http://www.inarilapland.org/en/index.html). Most probably the best place for cross-country skiing in Finland. You will love the scenery, which varies from treeless mountains to narrow gorges.

I would recommend renting a log cabin in Saariselkä! It was nice to come back from ice age to the warmth of the fire place. Great place for skidooing and sledging :)
