Ischgl is a village in the Paznaun Valley in Tyrol (Austria). Its ski resort ''Silvretta Arena Ischgl-Samnaun'' is connected with the ski resort of Samnaun across the border in Switzerland. Together this ski area belongs to the largest skiing resorts in the Alps. Its 200km of groomed pistes are served by over 40 mechanical lifts including cable cars, gondolas, detachable chair lifts and some T-bars.

It's possible to ride all the way to Schmuggler Alm in Samnaun and get some decent tax free deals on the Swiss side. They have perfumes, booze and all the usual tax free stuff at this scenic restaurant. Use the gigantic gondola to get back to Ischgl. As an exotic bonus, border guards on skis patrol the area occasionally to catch people who might be carrying too many bottles. 327 days, 12 hours ago

When taking the cable cars up to the skiing area it is definitely worth taking either fimbabahn or pardatschgratbahn as the main cable connection, silvrettabahn is usually very crowded during mornings. 301 days, 21 hours ago
