What is Geneva

Geneva (French: Genève, German: Genf; ), Switzerland is one of the world's major centers of international diplomacy, having served as the site of the initial headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross before that. Although the United Nations is now headquartered in New York, the organization still retains a large presence in Geneva at the Palais des Nations and many of its sister/child organizations such as the World Health Organization and UNICEF have their world headquarters here. It will be one of the eight host cities in the 2008 European Football Championships.

Geneva is a cool town, it is situated by the lake Geneva with beautiful surroundings. Public transport is excellent, they've got all the shops and restaurants you need and the coffee's good. It's also just a couple of hours away from some of the best skiing in Europe. Works for me ;)

This huge fountain is the landmark of Geneva. On a nice day people gather around the peer and enjoy the sun. Careful not to go too close as you will get soaking wet instantly.

It's bearable for a small, boring French village, otherwise no.

Nice park with some farm animals for the kids to enjoy. When you exit the park, take the train bridge across where the rivers Rhone and Arve are joining - has some nice views!

Take the opportunity to cross geneva lake from one side to the other for the price of the bus ticket taking the little yellow boat. It is a cheap and great trip to discover the city from the lake.

Be sure to leave enough time for security check, as the corridors go on and on forever before you actually get to the gate..of course depending on your destination. I seriously had to run for it a couple of times there, to catch my plane.

Nice little village above the famous resorts (spas, really) of Evian and Thonon, overlooking Lac Leman. Beautiful, tranquil surroundings - yet the jetset-nightlife is just a busride away!

Nice quiet village overlooking the famous resorts of Evian and Thonon, with a fabulous view of Lac Leman. Beautiful, serene surroundings, yet close to the jetset action of the expensive spa resorts.

Nice quiet village above the famous spa resorts of Evian and Thonon, overlooking Lac Leman. Fabulous views, beautiful surroundings, yet within walking distance (more or less) from the jetset nightlife of the expensive lakeshore resorts. Affordable accomodation and eating.
