What is Dublin
Dublin is the thriving capital city of the Republic of Ireland. It is on a par with many bigger European cities in terms of its vibrancy, its nightlife and its tourist attractions, and is the most popular entry point for international visitors to Ireland. As a city it is disproportionately large for the size of the country (2006 pop. 1.6m); well over a third of the Republic's population lives in the greater Dublin area. The centre is however relatively small and can be navigated by foot, with most of the population living in sprawling suburbs.
There has never been a better time to visit. The notoriously expensive accommodations and eating out spots are all in competition with each other to deliver the best quality and value.

A great way to plan your Dublin / Ireland trip is to look before you visit. There's a travel Ireland website to let you do just this called Look Around Ireland http://www.lookaroundireland.com
It has 360 degree video views of all counties in Ireland.

About places near Dublin
miian from Finland wrote about Donnybrook Hall one year, 4 months ago
Very clean, great service & breakfast (the hosts will make almost anything for you). Also a good location; doesn't take long to get to the city but there are also pubs (naturally) and restaurants near by. Rooms can get a bit cold (we stayed in February) but you don't spend that much time there anyway ;) Our tactic was to take a quick, hot shower and then run into bed right away.
And yes, this is in IRELAND, not in States but don't know how to delete the image from there - guess I'm not so good with maps, sorry...!

Quite small for a castle. Guided tours are ok, but if you have seen bigger castles anywhere doesn't impress so much. Sand sculptures on the front yard (during summer) are worth seeing and they're free!

I'm trying to decide between staying here and at the Forge Guest House in the village - any tips?
jjlaine from Finland wrote about Citywest hotel 2 years, 6 months ago
Although it's an hour away from the town it's very recommendable place to stay. Affordable, cosy rooms, green surroundings and a very lively hotel bar!

It's like the Rialto Bridge in Venice. Old, ironish and romantic. It doesn't even cost the half penny to walk over nowadays.

I tought that Kilmainham Gaol was an interesting place. I really recommend it to anyone who wants to learn something about the history of Ireland or just see an old, exciting place. The tours are guided and I have to say that our guide, an older, very convincing man, was excellent in his job. The tour started with a lecture about Irelands history and the story of the Kilmainham Gaol. After that we went to see the old cells and scary corridors. There is also a museum that you can visit after the tour. Tickets to the Kilmainham were only 2,10 € per student!

Quite peaceful place where you can sleep your nights safely. Funny thing though, there was usually a rude awakening, when the cook started making breakfast and the fire alarm went on :D

You can find these claire's shops around the whole Dublin, and ofcourse you have to visit every one of them :D claire's sells affordable accesories and the place is every girls dream. Why I'm tipping this in the Airport? If you had no time on your trip to visit the shops in Dublin city, this is your last chance :D Also I found the best offers from the airports shop.

The Four Courts buildings are really impressive. It makes you feel you have done something wrong :D There were plenty of business looking men and women running around and several people with black gowns on them. I'm not that familiar with buildings's history. Maybe someone else can tell more about that?
