What is Cracow
The city of Kraków is the capital city of the Malopolskie (Lesser Poland or Little Poland) province in the southern region of Poland. It covers both banks of the Wisla river (or Vistula) river. Uplands region at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. It is Poland's third largest city (after Lodz and Warsaw), with a population of 780,000 in 2004 (1.4 million after including surrounding communities).

We came back to Cracow's market square each day we spent in the city. It somehow seemed to be the real center of the city and we found everything we needed there. Good food, peaceful cafés, raucous jazz bars and of course the cloth hall (marketplace) with so many items related to Cracow's own Pope John Paul II.

The royal palace and cathedral have a great location on the Wawel hill rising steeply from the Vistula River. The place reflects the glorious past of Poland and is a good place to think about another one of those "what if" scenarios: Poland was powerful kingdom in the history - the royal palace is still look magnificient from outside. What it could be now, if.. Napoleon, WW II, Communit Era, ...
