What is Cancun

Cancún is a planned tourist city on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is a popular vacation spot on the Caribbean coast. There is much to do in the city and, if you're willing to take an hour or two bus trip, there is more to explore than you could possibly fit into a single vacation.

Peak season in Cancun tends to run from December to April. Prices in both airfare and hotel increase dramatically during these times, while dropping in the summer and early fall months. Late June is especially hot, so come prepared or try the off season. Hurricanes can be a major threat in the summer and early fall.

Over-rated and over-priced resort. Too much drinking, sunbaking and taking advantage of tourists for my tastes.

You can find vacational rents and spend less money

If you do decide to visit I recommend renting a taxi for a day and going to Tulum in your own pace. You can also ask the drive to stop at lagoons on the way that the local frequent. If you are tired of the overly touristic beach you can always go down town for a more authentic meal.

Get off the strip... go where the locals go.

Unless you're between the ages of 17 and 21, I wouldn't recommend going here. It feels like the US, except the second you leave the strip with all of the hotels, you get endless hagglers trying to sell you time shares. The beaches are starting to erode as well. For a better vacation, drive two hours south of Cancun to Tulum, Mexico.

White sand, turquoise sea, beautiful warm nights..perfection! I recommend so-called all-include hotel packets. You can eat and drink freely during a day and food is usually good and versatile. And don´t forget lactic acid capsules or tequila shots. They keep you away from stomach flus.

Cancun is a bit snabby, but if you stay in your hotel area, it´s quite ok place for relaxing. Hotels also offer nice day trips: Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza, Tulum etc.
