"There's only one place to begin exploring the city - Tiananmen Square ,where Mao Zedong declared the foundation of the People's Republic."

"Classic Beijing -Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven."
cityguide.travel-guides.com

"The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 ,also known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre (????? in Traditional Chinese ,and called the June Fourth Incident (????) in China to avoid confusion with the two other Tiananmen Square protests ,were a series of demonstrations led by labor activists ,students, and intellectuals in the People's Republic of China (PRC) between April 15 and June 4 , 1989."

"Great wall and Ming tomb Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven Summer Palace."

"Beijing's undertaken an image makeover in recent times, which has included the abolition of the last of the city's official off-limit areas, established in the 1950s to quarantine the Cultural Revolution from foreign influences, and the successful pursuit of the 2008 Olympic Games; with the latter, however, propaganda benefits rather than sport may be foremost in the minds of Chinese officials, considering one proposal to stage beach volleyball games and part of the triathlon in Tiananmen Square."

"If your visions of Beijing are centred around pods of Maoist revolutionaries in buttoned-down tunics performing exercise in Tiananmen Square, put them to rest: this city has embarked on a new millennium rollercoaster and it's taking the rest of China with it."

willemdes
willemdeshates Beijing because Pollution, most people are friendly only as long as they can get or think they can get money, services or other benefits out of you etc. Lived here and found good sides (namely some individuals) too, but the negative things are overwhelming. Like China, hate this capital nicknamed BJ.

A place to visit if history is not your thing. Nothing ancient in sight from the tower. Choose a clear day to come here. There's a nice park with artificial lake next
to the tower.

mvalkama

One of the Beijing bar areas. Tourist like bars line the main Sanlitun street, but night clubs and other bars can be found by checking the nearby alleys and buildings. Taxi drivers should know the address.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Serves excellent modern Chinese food. Strongly recommended. Book a table in advance or prepare to wait ½h in a lobby bar. I get hungry even when I'm thinking the food. Nam.
