Use taxis, preferably those with actual taxi license inside the car. I was swindled to take a ride in a random car by a taxi license owner.

If you are fancy to try local food - visit NAMBITA - probably one of the most popular restaurants in Soweto. Is very different (and much cheaper) comparing what you can find in Johannesburg. You will not see steaks in the menu (surprise!) :-) You can try Mogodu instead – kind of spicy stew made out of cows intestine or fried Mopani Worms – bit crispy and quite OK. If thats too strange for you – you will find some chicken or vegetable meals – all from South African tradition. The best way is to go there with some locals, who will help you make a choice and explain the tradition. Buon apetite!
